"Inter Campus Argentina"

Children and young people from vulnerable families and who are considered to
be at high risk from a socio-cultural viewpoint have few opportunities to
involve themselves in the world of work and society. The lack of
self-esteem, and the insecurity and frustration that these youngsters go
through make up the ideal seeds from which social exclusion grows.

The development of our sports programme offers many and varied possibilities
such as those that sport itself brings naturally: meeting places, health,
education, positive enjoyment and the chance to meet new people and make
friends. The project is based on the fact that work which revolves around
sport as a social recreation can become a way to involve those who have been
marginalized but who can still meet in a sports context. Sport attracts
everyone through its direct effect on people, and the fact that no
discussion is necessary helps to overcome barriers of social class,
religion, race and language; that is, it becomes a formidable instrument for
integration.

Our sports project was born as another instrument available to the
Foundation to meet the principal needs of our youngsters' peers who, because
of their age, cannot be involved in "Un Alternativa di Vita". These are kids
who, for reasons of justice and equality, cannot be left on the sidelines.

Sport becomes a medium to include these youngsters of between 6 and 16 years
of age in a way that unites them not only to strengthen them physically but
also to help them develop values such as hard work and effort, teamwork,
solidarity and discipline.

The project is structured with a group of professionals who are responsible
for the various activities and who include physical fitness instructors,
psychologists, teachers, sports doctors etc. The sports activities are based
around Club Atlético Lanùs, with which we have organised an exchange
programme for this Institutions youngsters who need it.

What we hope to guarantee with our efforts is the idea of equality of
opportunity for all members of the community; we hope to offer our
youngsters' brothers and sisters, and their peers, equal opportunities for
development and for full realization of their potential; in this case
bringing about our objectives through the medium of sport.

This project is intended to respond to the needs of an important group of
individuals who form part of society: children and teenagers, with the
specific aim of our work being to prevent social defeat and eradicating the
symptoms which cause it.

During 2002, to conclude our programme, our Foundation has drawn up an
agreement with Club Atletico Lanus, The Argentine Sports Federation (FEDEBA)
and the National Ministry for Sports which has financed part of the project.

As from April 2003, our Foundation has reached a strategic agreement with
F.O.C. (Fundacion de Organizacion Comunitaria) and with Inter Futura S.R.L.,
a subsidiary of F.C. Internazionale Milano (Inter Football Club, Milano,
Italy) to carry our programme forward; this has been named "Inter Campus
Argentina". The agreement sets out economic and professional assistance
which allows us to fulfil our work and to improve our activities.
